Rock Boxes

These pieces reflect the geological qualities that ceramic material can share in appearance and tactile senses with its parent material that is rock. Again the idea of the importance of universality and the ceramic vessel making tradition are expounded upon in new visual form. These boxes are comprised of rough native North Dakota brick clay as well as white and red earthen-wares and porcelain. They all return to their roots by being finished in the primitive pit-firing process in the ground.
