This work calls upon the multiple meanings of the word “canonization” to attribute the authoritative sanctioning of pottery as a “fine art”. The shrine like setting provides niches to demonstrate this noble and sacred world-wide tradition in several of its well-known worldly forms. This piece features some of the major world-wide ceramic innovation benchmarks from the beginning of clay vessel making with the Jomon people in 10,000 B.C. up through the modern arts and crafts movement. |
